A winning combination of faith, family, and hard work has enabled General Partition to prosper and grow for more than half a century as a trusted local box partition manufacturer. The company’s story began in May 1965, when James W. Houseman, then working for a paper broker in Philadelphia, decided to pursue the American dream.
James took a leap of faith, investing his life savings to rent a building in Northeast Philadelphia, purchase raw materials, and acquire three used converting machines. After partnering with several local businesses to create custom packaging solutions, General Partition was born.
This once humble vision quickly gained momentum. Over the next five years, General Partition expanded its workforce from 10 to 35 employees. By 1970, the growing interior packaging manufacturer had outgrown its rented Philadelphia facility. This pivotal moment led to the construction of a warehouse in Croydon, located in the suburbs of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Continued growth followed, including a major expansion of the Croydon facility in 1981.
Today, General Partition operates from a manufacturing facility in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, spanning more than 35,000 square feet and equipped with modern materials and machinery. The company remains family-owned and operated, with James Houseman’s sons, James Jr. and Richard (“Rick”), actively involved in the business. James Jr. works in manufacturing, while Rick serves as company president and sales manager. Rick’s son Richard jr. is now closely working with his father to take over running of the company. Prior, for 10 years Rick jr was the plant supervisor which allowed him to learn all manufacturing and logistic functions. Rick’s son-in-law, Tim Rahill, is part of the sales team.
