But how did we get where we are now?
It didn’t happen overnight. We’re expecting great things in the future, and that’s because of our strong past. Hard work, dedication and integrity are the foundations General Partition was founded upon back in May of 1965—almost 50 years ago to the date of this entry.
James Houseman Sr. founded General Partition Company in a small Philadelphia facility, after leaving his job as a salesman for a paper broker. Using his limited resources at the time, Houseman Sr. purchased three used paper conversion machines and some necessary raw materials.
In five short years, General Partition would completely outgrow their small Philadelphia facility, and in 1970 Houseman Sr. moved the business to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia. After relocating and hiring a motivated sales team, General Partition enjoyed healthy growth, expanding from 10 employees to 35 in a matter of a few years.
By ’81, General Partition was again outgrowing itself and needed another expansion, and Houseman Sr. obliged. With the new addition, the facility covers 35,000 sq. ft. and is outfitted with high-quality, contemporary partition manufacturing equipment. This includes chipboard partition slotting machines, assembly machines, die cutting machines, industrial guillotine paper cutters and more—everything to create the best product for you, our client.
James Sr. founded this company 50 years ago, and we plan to spend the next 50 years growing, evolving and serving our valued clientele. We follow in James Sr.’s footsteps, never forgetting his core values of faith, family, hard work and perseverance.
The Houseman family is never far from Houseman Sr.’s legacy. His two sons, James Jr. and Richard carry on General Partition’s five-decade legacy. James Jr. works with the manufacturing department providing quality assurance and consistency. Richard is General Partition’s Vice President and Sales Manager.
Richard Houseman’s son, Richard Jr. is a college graduate overseeing plant operations. His son-in-law, Tim Rahill started in the manufacturing department, and now he successfully contributes as part of the outside sales staff.
We’re going to keep growing, and keep providing products that help packaging distributors, manufacturers of all types, pharmaceutical companies, breweries and more every day.
